Visit the Venice of Tokyo (No flight required)

Wedy here,

So you’re in Tokyo, and you’re feeling homesick for wonderful Europe. Or you’ve always wanted to visit a traditional European city… Then look no further, Wedy has you covered. Have you heard of Venus Fort? Ok it’s not quite “traditional” Europe, but it’s a shopping mall with the aesthetics of a medieval European city. Classy.

Venus Fort Fun Facts

  • The 3F is home to “Venus OUTLET”, a whole floor of outlet stores and the first of its kind in Tokyo. Many outlet stores for your favourite brands are based here, such as LEVI, All Saints, Puma & CITIZEN.

  • A replica of the famous Bocca della Verità sculpture, or “Mouth of Truth” can be found on the second floor in Venus Fort.

  • The inside sky will change colour in accordance with the time of day.

Must Visit Locations

Fountain Plaza:

The Fountain Plaza is one of the “must see” locations inside the Venus Fort. Standing tall and being supported by six godesses, this fountain makes a perfect photo opportunity.

Church Plaza:

Church Plaza lies in the deepest part of Venus Fort. This huge open “courtyard” will leave you in awe of its beauty and leave you wanting more. It’s also home to many good restaurants, such as Shounan Pancake, which I’d highly recommend.

With dough made from rich Shonan wheat, and with Shonan Wheat “to be the forerunner of Japanese barley”, these pancakes are able to maintain their light fluffy texture right until they’re in your belly. Whoops I’ve said too much, my mouth is already watering.

But back to the Church Plaza; the plaza has featured on many TV shows, and has even hosted many celebrity events, so who knows who maybe there when you visit.

Namco Arcade:

Ah a visit to the arcade, a long standing traditional European activity, well maybe not, but this arcade reminds you that you’re still in Tokyo, and that’s ok to be reminded that you’re not actually walking around the streets of Venice. Plus it’s home to the biggest PacMan board! This arcade also has the usual suspects; UFO machines filled with many kawaii plushies, anime figures and even chocolate(!?!). So let your inner child come alive and go crazy!

***Bonus Must Visit***

So you’ve travelled to Odaiba to visit Venus Fort, you might aswel stick around and see more of the sights.

Palette Town

Fun fact, you can actually see the birthplace of Pokémon Master Ash Ketchum here in Palette Town… Only joking, there’s nothing Pokémon related here, but there is a Ferris Wheel which will give you excellent views of Tokyo Tower and Rainbow Bridge.

You can also experience an educational yet fun introduction into Toyota’s technology at Megaweb Toyota City Showcase, which I know may not sound exciting, but there are lots of hands on demo’s and interesting cars on display.

There is also currently an immersive light exhibition at TeamLab Borderless which I highly recommend. I do recommend booking tickets in advance for this as it can get very busy.

So that’s all for now folks,

I’ve been Wedy Jones.

Keep it Real, Keep it Nippon.
